Craft CMS to Astro migration on Cloudflare

We move Craft CMS sites, including Craft 3 and Craft 4 sites that no longer get security fixes, to Astro on Cloudflare. You keep your entries, design, page addresses and rankings, and stop paying for licence renewals, plugin upgrades and a server to keep patched.

Craft CMS is a well-built content system, often chosen by design agencies for brands that care how their site looks. But every major version needs an upgrade project, plugins have to be renewed and carried forward, and the site still needs a PHP server and database looked after.

Why move off Craft CMS

What Craft CMS is costing your business

The short answer: time, money and risk that a modern site does not need.

Craft 3 and 4 are past end of life

Craft 3 stopped getting security fixes on 30 April 2024, and Craft 4 security support ended on 30 April 2026. Sites still on either version are running without patches.

Upgrades held back by plugins

Moving to Craft 5 means every plugin must have a Craft 5 version. One plugin that was never updated can hold back the whole site.

Paying every year to stand still

Licence renewals, plugin renewals, a PHP server and database, and developer time for each upgrade all add up, without the site getting any better.

Speed depends on the server

Craft builds pages on a server when they are requested, so speed depends on caching and server load rather than being fast by design.

What moves across

What we move from Craft CMS to Astro

Everything that matters to your customers and to Google comes with you.

Entries and sections

Every entry moved with its section, fields and categories, so pages, news and case studies stay organised.

Design

Your existing design rebuilt faithfully in Astro, so the brand looks the same and loads faster. A redesign is quoted separately if you want one.

Addresses and redirects

Page addresses kept, with permanent (301) redirects for anything that changes, so rankings and links carry over.

Assets and forms

Images and files moved and converted to modern formats, and forms rebuilt with spam protection.

How it works

How a Craft CMS to Astro migration works

Four steps, with your Google rankings protected throughout.

Audit

We list every page, image, form, redirect and search ranking on your current site, and check what is worth keeping.

Rebuild

Your content is moved into Astro, with a cleaner design built to turn visitors into enquiries. You approve a private preview.

Protect rankings

Every old address that changes gets a permanent (301) redirect, so Google sends visitors and ranking value to the new page.

Switch over

We move hosting to Cloudflare, switch on the firewall and check every page, form and redirect on the live site.

Why Astro on Cloudflare

What you get after the move

A faster, safer site that costs less to run and is easier for Google and AI assistants to recommend.

Fast on every phone

Astro sends visitors finished pages with very little code, and Cloudflare serves them from a data centre near each visitor. We build every site to score 90 to 100 in Google Lighthouse.

Very little to hack

There is no admin login, database or plugin on the public site for attackers to target, and Cloudflare's firewall (WAF) checks every request before it arrives.

Lower running costs

No plugin licences, no server to patch and no emergency fixes after an update. Hosting on Cloudflare costs far less than a managed PHP server.

Found in Google and AI search

Clean page structure, structured data, an llms.txt file and fast load times help Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity understand and recommend you.

Who it is for

Typical Craft CMS moves: why, the value and the cost of waiting

Our focus is SMEs and trade businesses, and we help other organisations too. These are typical situations we see, not named clients.

A design-led manufacturer

A Craft 4 site built by an agency, with a strong design, several paid plugins and an upgrade to Craft 5 still on the to-do list.

Why it matters
Craft 4 has had no security fixes since 30 April 2026, and the upgrade means renewing and replacing plugins on top of the developer time.
The value
The same design on a fast, secure site with no licences, plugins or server to keep up to date.
If it is ignored
An unpatched site in front of the brand, and an upgrade bill that grows the longer it is put off.

A professional services firm

A Craft 3 site with years of articles and team profiles, looked after by an agency the firm no longer works with.

Why it matters
Craft 3 has had no security fixes since 30 April 2024, and finding someone to pick up an old Craft build is slow and costly.
The value
Every article and profile kept, page addresses protected, and a site the firm can have changed without specialist help.
If it is ignored
A growing security risk, rising support costs and a site nobody feels able to change.

A premium retailer or hospitality brand

A Craft site with large photography, slow on phones despite caching, and a hosting bill for a dedicated server.

Why it matters
Visitors judge a premium brand by how the site feels on a phone, and slow image-heavy pages lose them before they enquire or book.
The value
Fast pages served from Cloudflare near every visitor, with images resized automatically and lower hosting costs.
If it is ignored
Lost enquiries and bookings from visitors who give up waiting, and paying for a server the site does not need.
AI SEO

Be found in AI search, not just Google

Every website we build or move is optimised for Google and for AI search as standard.

Why it matters

More customers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers which business to use. AI SEO makes your website easy for these assistants to read, trust and recommend.

What we do

Clear page structure, schema markup, an llms.txt file, fast pages and accurate business details, so AI assistants describe your services, areas and reviews correctly.

If it is ignored

AI answers recommend your competitors instead, and you never see the enquiries you lost.

Questions

Craft CMS to Astro: common questions

Should I upgrade to Craft 5 or move to a new platform?

If your site is mainly pages, articles and forms, moving to Astro usually costs about the same as a major Craft upgrade and removes future upgrades and licence renewals altogether. We check your plugins and content first and recommend the cheaper, safer route.

My site is on Craft 3 or Craft 4. Is it unsafe?

Craft 3 has had no security fixes since 30 April 2024 and Craft 4 none since 30 April 2026, so any new weakness found stays open. The site may still work, but the risk grows every month it stays online.

Will my site look the same after moving off Craft?

Yes, if you want it to. We rebuild your existing design in Astro, so visitors see the same brand on a faster site. If you would like a redesign, we quote it separately.

Will I lose my Google rankings moving off Craft CMS?

Not if the move is done properly. We keep your addresses where possible and add permanent (301) redirects for any that change, then check every one after the switch.

How long does a Craft CMS to Astro migration take?

Most small business sites move in 7 to 10 working days from the day we have everything we need from you. Larger sites, shops and member areas are planned with you and given a fixed date in the proposal.

How much does it cost to move from Craft CMS to Astro?

Prices start from £1,250 + VAT and depend on the number of pages and what the site needs to do. You get one fixed price in writing before anything starts.
