Drupal to Astro migration on Cloudflare

We move Drupal sites, including Drupal 7 sites past end of life, to Astro on Cloudflare. Your content and Google rankings come with you, and the cycle of major Drupal upgrades and specialist developer bills ends.

Drupal is powerful, and many organisations chose it for good reasons. But for a smaller business or organisation, keeping up with each major Drupal version has become an expensive project in its own right.

Why move off Drupal

What Drupal is costing your business

The short answer: time, money and risk that a modern site does not need.

Drupal 7 is past end of life

Drupal 7 reached end of life on 5 January 2025, so it no longer gets free security fixes from the Drupal project. Running it today means paid extended support or growing risk.

Every major upgrade is a rebuild

Moving between major Drupal versions often means rewriting custom code and replacing modules that were never upgraded. Many sites stall on an old version because of the cost.

Specialist skills, specialist rates

Drupal developers are fewer and more expensive than most web developers, and small changes can need one.

Heavy for a brochure site

Drupal brings a database, server and admin system to run what is often a set of pages that change a few times a year.

What moves across

What we move from Drupal to Astro

Everything that matters to your customers and to Google comes with you.

Content types and pages

Basic pages, articles and custom content types mapped and moved, with fields carried across.

Taxonomy and structure

Categories, tags and menus rebuilt so visitors and search engines can still find everything.

Path aliases and redirects

Your clean addresses kept, and existing Drupal redirects carried over with any new ones added.

Webforms

Drupal Webforms rebuilt as fast, spam-protected forms that send enquiries where you need them.

How it works

How a Drupal to Astro migration works

Four steps, with your Google rankings protected throughout.

Audit

We list every page, image, form, redirect and search ranking on your current site, and check what is worth keeping.

Rebuild

Your content is moved into Astro, with a cleaner design built to turn visitors into enquiries. You approve a private preview.

Protect rankings

Every old address that changes gets a permanent (301) redirect, so Google sends visitors and ranking value to the new page.

Switch over

We move hosting to Cloudflare, switch on the firewall and check every page, form and redirect on the live site.

Why Astro on Cloudflare

What you get after the move

A faster, safer site that costs less to run and is easier for Google and AI assistants to recommend.

Fast on every phone

Astro sends visitors finished pages with very little code, and Cloudflare serves them from a data centre near each visitor. We build every site to score 90 to 100 in Google Lighthouse.

Very little to hack

There is no admin login, database or plugin on the public site for attackers to target, and Cloudflare's firewall (WAF) checks every request before it arrives.

Lower running costs

No plugin licences, no server to patch and no emergency fixes after an update. Hosting on Cloudflare costs far less than a managed PHP server.

Found in Google and AI search

Clean page structure, structured data, an llms.txt file and fast load times help Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity understand and recommend you.

Who it is for

Typical Drupal moves: why, the value and the cost of waiting

Our focus is SMEs and trade businesses, and we help other organisations too. These are typical situations we see, not named clients.

A membership organisation

A Drupal 7 site with a large news archive, past end of life, and an upgrade quote that keeps being put off.

Why it matters
Drupal 7 no longer receives free security fixes. Members trust the organisation with their details, so an unpatched site is a reputational risk.
The value
Every news item and page address kept, the site moved onto supported technology, and no more major-version upgrades to budget for.
If it is ignored
Paying for extended support or living with an unpatched site, and facing the same expensive upgrade decision again with every Drupal version.

A small manufacturer

A Drupal brochure site where every product change needs a specialist developer.

Why it matters
The sales team cannot update products or prices quickly, so the website lags behind what the business actually sells.
The value
Product pages the team can update themselves, a faster site for buyers and distributors, and no specialist developer bills for small changes.
If it is ignored
Out-of-date product information, enquiries for things no longer made, and ongoing costs for changes that should take minutes.

A professional services firm

A Drupal 9 site built by an agency that has since moved on, with custom modules nobody else understands.

Why it matters
Without the original developer, every fix is slow and expensive, and the next Drupal upgrade could break the custom code.
The value
A simpler site with no custom modules to maintain, owned and understood by the firm, on fast, secure hosting.
If it is ignored
Being locked into scarce, expensive Drupal skills, with the risk that an upgrade breaks the site at a bad moment.
Questions

Drupal to Astro: common questions

Is it worth upgrading Drupal 7 or moving to something else?

For most smaller sites, moving to Astro costs less than a major Drupal upgrade and removes future upgrades altogether. If your site relies on complex Drupal features, such as member logins or workflows, we look at those first and tell you honestly which route is better.

Will my Drupal page addresses still work?

Yes. We keep your path aliases wherever possible and add permanent (301) redirects for anything that changes, including the redirects already set up in Drupal.

Can you move a Drupal 9 or 10 site, not just Drupal 7?

Yes. The approach is the same for any Drupal version: we export the content, map each content type and rebuild it in Astro.

How long does a Drupal to Astro migration take?

Most small business sites move in 7 to 10 working days from the day we have everything we need from you. Larger sites, shops and member areas are planned with you and given a fixed date in the proposal.

How much does it cost to move from Drupal to Astro?

Prices start from £1,250 + VAT and depend on the number of pages and what the site needs to do. You get one fixed price in writing before anything starts.

Who do you help?

SMEs and trade businesses, and also charities, membership bodies, professional services and other organisations running Drupal that want a simpler, faster site.
