WordPress to Astro migration on Cloudflare

We move small business WordPress sites to Astro on Cloudflare. You keep your content, page addresses and Google rankings, and lose the plugin updates, slow pages and security worries.

WordPress is the most widely used website system in the world, which is exactly why it is the most targeted. For a busy SME or trade business it often means a slow site, a long list of plugin updates and a nagging worry about the next hack.

Why move off WordPress

What WordPress is costing your business

The short answer: time, money and risk that a modern site does not need.

Plugin updates that never stop

Most WordPress sites rely on a stack of plugins. Each one needs updating, and an update can break a form, a page builder or the whole site.

The biggest target on the web

Because so many sites run WordPress, attackers scan for out-of-date plugins and weak logins all day. Most WordPress security problems start in a plugin or theme.

Slow pages lose enquiries

Page builders, sliders and plugins add weight. On a phone, a slow page means the visitor goes back to Google and rings someone else.

Paying to stand still

Hosting, premium plugin licences, security add-ons and developer time to fix updates add up, without the site getting any better.

What moves across

What we move from WordPress to Astro

Everything that matters to your customers and to Google comes with you.

Pages and posts

Every page and blog post moved across, with headings, images and internal links tidied as we go.

Forms

Contact and quote forms rebuilt with spam protection, sending enquiries straight to you or your CRM.

SEO settings

Titles, descriptions and redirects carried over from Yoast, Rank Math or similar, then improved.

Images

Images resized and converted to modern formats, so they look sharp and load quickly.

How it works

How a WordPress to Astro migration works

Four steps, with your Google rankings protected throughout.

Audit

We list every page, image, form, redirect and search ranking on your current site, and check what is worth keeping.

Rebuild

Your content is moved into Astro, with a cleaner design built to turn visitors into enquiries. You approve a private preview.

Protect rankings

Every old address that changes gets a permanent (301) redirect, so Google sends visitors and ranking value to the new page.

Switch over

We move hosting to Cloudflare, switch on the firewall and check every page, form and redirect on the live site.

Why Astro on Cloudflare

What you get after the move

A faster, safer site that costs less to run and is easier for Google and AI assistants to recommend.

Fast on every phone

Astro sends visitors finished pages with very little code, and Cloudflare serves them from a data centre near each visitor. We build every site to score 90 to 100 in Google Lighthouse.

Very little to hack

There is no admin login, database or plugin on the public site for attackers to target, and Cloudflare's firewall (WAF) checks every request before it arrives.

Lower running costs

No plugin licences, no server to patch and no emergency fixes after an update. Hosting on Cloudflare costs far less than a managed PHP server.

Found in Google and AI search

Clean page structure, structured data, an llms.txt file and fast load times help Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity understand and recommend you.

Who it is for

Typical WordPress moves: why, the value and the cost of waiting

Our focus is SMEs and trade businesses, and we help other organisations too. These are typical situations we see, not named clients.

A heating engineer

A small WordPress site held together by plugins, slow on phones, with an enquiry form that sometimes failed after updates.

Why it matters
Most of their customers search on a phone in an emergency. A slow page or a broken form sends that caller straight to the next firm on Google.
The value
A fast site with a page for every town they cover, a quote form that reaches their phone every time, and no plugins to update.
If it is ignored
Lost emergency calls they never hear about, a growing risk of the site being hacked through an old plugin, and a bigger rebuild bill when it finally breaks.

An accountancy practice

A WordPress site with years of useful blog articles, a premium theme and a security add-on to keep it safe.

Why it matters
Those articles bring in clients through Google. The practice needs to keep that traffic while cutting the cost and worry of keeping WordPress patched.
The value
Every article and page address kept so search traffic carries straight on, a faster site that clients trust, and lower running costs.
If it is ignored
Paying each year for licences and fixes, with the risk that one failed update or breach damages a reputation built on trust.

A small online retailer or charity

A WordPress site built up over time by different people, with page builders, sliders and forms from several plugins.

Why it matters
Nobody is sure which plugins are still needed or safe to remove, so every change feels risky and is put off.
The value
A clean, fast site with only what is needed, protected by Cloudflare, that can be changed without fear of breaking it.
If it is ignored
The site gets slower and more fragile each year, changes cost more, and visitors on phones give up before they act.
Questions

WordPress to Astro: common questions

Will I lose my Google rankings if I move off WordPress?

Not if the move is done properly. We keep your page addresses wherever possible and add a permanent (301) redirect for any that change, so Google passes the ranking value to the new page. We check every redirect after the switch.

Can I still edit my website after leaving WordPress?

Yes. Changes can be made for you under a monthly support plan, or we can set up simple editing so you can update text, images and news yourself.

What happens to my WordPress plugins?

Most plugins are not needed on an Astro site, because the jobs they did (caching, security, image compression, SEO) are built in. Anything you still need, such as a form or booking tool, is replaced with a lighter equivalent.

How long does a WordPress to Astro migration take?

Most small business sites move in 7 to 10 working days from the day we have everything we need from you. Larger sites, shops and member areas are planned with you and given a fixed date in the proposal.

How much does it cost to move from WordPress to Astro?

Prices start from £1,250 + VAT and depend on the number of pages and what the site needs to do. You get one fixed price in writing before anything starts.

Is this only for trade businesses?

No. We work with many SMEs and trade businesses, and also with professional services, retailers, charities and other organisations that want a faster, safer website.
